CAPPELLA FEDE IN ROME FOR THE CANONISATION OF CARDINAL JOHN HENRY NEWMAN

Cappella Fede were deeply honoured to perform a concert at San Giorgio in Velabro.

On the occasion of Cardinal John Henry Newman's Canonisation, the British School at Rome and British Embassy to the Holy See presented a guided walk linking four sites associated with Cardinal Newman in Rome to some of his most important writings.

- Propaganda Fide, Palazzo di Spagna: Capppella dei Re Magi and chapel dedicated to 'Blessed john Henry Newman'. Reading from Letter to the Duke of Norfolk.
- Palazzo Maffei Marescotti: Reading of Biglietto speech from 12 May, 1874.
- Venerable English College: Exhibition John Henry Newman: A Saint in Rome. Reading from The Dream of Gerontius.
- San Giorgio in Velabro Church: concert of music associated with Newman by Cappella Fede.

The concert programme constructed by Peter Leech, included music set to Newman's texts by composers Tallis, Elgar, Fortunato Santini and Attwood. Peter composed a piece of music especially for the occasion, Duc, alma lux (Lead, kindly light) which he dedicated to Her Excellency, Sally Axworthy, British Ambassador to the Holy See.

The concert was attended by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture and Cardinal-Deacon of San Giorgio in Velabro.
